Plans for a mosque set to be built near Ground Zero have cleared a major legal hurdle after the New York State Supreme Court dismissed a lawsuit trying to stop construction of the place of worship. Now, supporters have been given a green light on the project.
One vocal opponent – Tim Brown, a retired firefighter of the FDNY and a 9/11 first responder – told America’s Newsroom’s Martha MacCallum that regardless of the court’s dismissal, the battle isn’t yet over … and that he and other first responders and victims’ families won’t stand to see the mosque built.
“We contended that the process was flawed … and we still believe that’s true,” he said. “We do intend to appeal.”
Brown also contended that regardless of religious affiliation, the construction of such a building would block his and others’ ability to commemorate the events that took place on September 11, 2001.
“It had one of the landing gear go through the roof,” he said, “so for someone to say it’s not on or at Ground Zero is disingenuous.”
s of their loved ones lost that day. “The fact that they continue to push this is hurtful to us,” Brown said. “The families are not going away … This mosque will never be built.”
Furthermore, the building was never searched for remains, and many families are still looking for the remain
